৪০ লক্ষ বাঙালির এনআরসি-ছুটের ঘটনা ইদের আনন্দে তা থাবা বসাতে পারেনি। আজ সকালে বরাক উপত্যকার ইদগাগুলিতে নামাজ আদায়ের জন্য ব্যাপক সমাবেশ হয়। বহু জায়গায় পুণ্যার্থীদের ভিড় অন্য বছরের চেয়ে বেশি হয়। তবে কোথাও কোনও অপ্রীতিকর ঘটনার খবর নেই।

শিলচরের প্রধান জমায়েত ইটখলা ইদগায় নামাজ পড়ান মৌলানা সাব্বির আহমদ লস্কর। বিশিষ্ট ঐস্লামিক বোদ্ধা মৌলানা সাদিক আহমদ লস্কর সেখানে সংক্ষিপ্ত বক্তব্য রাখেন। তিনি মূলত ইদের আনন্দ যেন অন্য ধর্মের কাউকে বিরক্ত করে না–করে, সেদিকে খেয়াল রাখতে আহ্বান জানান। হাইলাকান্দি বাসস্ট্যান্ড ইদগাতেও প্রায় একই সুরে বক্তৃতা করেন মৌলানা সারিমুল হক। তিনি কোরবানির পশুর অব্যবহৃত অংশ মাটিতে পুঁতে ফেলতে সকলকে পরামর্শ দেন। উত্তর জষ্ণাবাদ-লালামুখ-বর্নারপুর ইদগাতে নামাজ পড়ান মৌলানা বসিরউদ্দিন চৌধুরী। লালাশহর জামে মসজিদে ছিলেন মৌলানা মুস্তাক আহমদ। হাফিজ তৈয়বুর রহমান লস্কর পড়ান হাইলাকান্দি আলিয়া মাদ্রাসায়। রাঙাউটি খানকা মসজিদের সমাবেশে নামাজ পরিচালনা করেন মৌলানা জাবির আবদুল্লা। সেখানে আল্লাম্মা তৈয়ীবুর রহমান বড়ভুইয়া নিজে নামাজ পড়েন। করিমগঞ্জের প্রধান সমাবেশটি হয় টাউন ইদগা। সেখানেও সর্বাবস্থায় শান্তি-সম্প্রীতি বজায় রাখার জন্য আহ্বান জানানো হয়।

Eid al-Adha, also known as the ‘festival of sacrifice’ (Bakri Eid) was celebrated throughout the globe on Wednesday with pomp and splendor. Whether it’s the “small” Eid after Ramadan (Eid-ul-Fitr) or the “big” one a few months later (Eid-ul-Adha), there is something about interrupting daily life for celebration and worship that never gets old.

Eid al-Adha marks the obedience of Ibrahim (Abraham) towards god as he willingly agreed to sacrifice his son. But, according to tradition, Allah, impressed by his devotion sent his angels and asked him to sacrifice an animal instead of his son and it set the precedent of animal sacrifice on this day.

While Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah as per the Islamic lunar calendar, according to the Gregorian calendar, the date varies every year and shifts 11 days from the previous date. Eid al-Adha marks the final day of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage Muslims are required to undertake to Makkah once in a lifetime. Some Muslims observe this Eid for three days.

Every year, as Muslims all across the globe unite to celebrate Eid al-Adha, sacrificing a sheep or goat remains an integral part of it. The animal is generally bought by them days before the occasion, and is treated as a pet and even well-fed before sacrificing it. Later, the meat of the animal is divided among the family, relatives and friends, and the poor in equal parts. It is believed that on the day of the Sacrificial Feast, no one should be left hungry.

Along with rest of the world, Eid al-Adha was also celebrated in all the three districts of Barak Valley. At Silchar too, the Muslims offered prayers in the Mosques in the morning.On the eve of Eid al-Adha, S. Laksmanan, Deputy Commissioner Cachar convened a meeting at his conference hall to ensure peace and tranquility during the celebration of ‘Bakri Eid.’The administration appealed to the people not to sacrifice animals in public places. He also suggested to bury the mortal remains of the animals sacrificed on ‘Bakri Eid’ to avoid any sort of tension between communities.
