Efforts to clear debris continue overnight
way2barak June 13: The operation to clear the site of the crash continued overnight and is in the last stages, an official said on Friday.
“Bodies were charred beyond recognition,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanan Desai. The senior official had earlier said 265 bodies were sent to the city civil hospital.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has increased the number of teams attending to the emergency situation in Ahmedabad to seven after the crash.
NDRF Inspector Vinay Kumar said that the force has deployed seven teams to help with the emergency situation.
“The operation is not yet complete. It is ongoing. We can’t say anything about the total number of deaths as of now. Seven teams of NDRF have been deployed,” Kumar told reporters here.
Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg says that he is supporting Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the lead agency investigating the tragic crash in Ahmedabad.
He says that he has spoken to the chair of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board Jennifer Homendy and committed “our full support to the investigative process”.
He also says that he has cancelled his plans to attend the Paris airshow.
