District Administration issues advisory on proper display, handling and disposal of the Tricolour

way2barak, Aug 8: As Cachar district gears up for the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign from August 9 to 15, the District Administration has appealed to citizens, institutions, public representatives, private establishments and organisations to participate wholeheartedly in the campaign while ensuring that the dignity and sanctity of the National Flag are maintained at all times.

The District Administration has emphasised that the Tricolour is not merely a symbol of national pride but embodies the values, sacrifices and aspirations associated with the Republic of India. Citizens participating in the campaign have therefore been urged to observe the provisions of the Flag Code of India, 2002, and other applicable laws governing the display and handling of the National Flag.

The Administration has called upon citizens to display the National Flag with utmost respect and dignity, ensuring that it remains in a position of honour and is not used in any manner inconsistent with its status as the National Flag.

As per the Flag Code of India, the National Flag should be displayed in a manner that reflects its dignity. The saffron band should remain at the top when the Flag is displayed horizontally, while the Flag should be positioned with the saffron band to the right when displayed vertically. The Flag should not be displayed upside down, allowed to touch the ground or floor, or trail in water.

The District Administration has further advised that the National Flag should not be used as clothing, part of a costume or uniform, or for any other purpose that may compromise its dignity. It should also not be used as a covering for statues, monuments, buildings or vehicles, except as specifically permitted under the applicable provisions.

Citizens have also been requested to ensure that the National Flag is not damaged, defaced or soiled. The Flag should not be used for commercial purposes or in any manner that may diminish the respect due to it.

With the use of polyester and machine made flags being permissible under the amended provisions of the Flag Code, citizens have been encouraged to participate in the campaign using flags that conform to the prescribed specifications and are maintained respectfully.

The Administration has also stressed the importance of proper disposal of National Flags after the campaign. Worn-out or damaged flags should not be discarded casually or in a manner that may amount to disrespect. Such flags should be disposed of privately and with due regard to their dignity, preferably by burning or in another manner consistent with the dignity of the National Flag.

The District Administration has appealed to residents of Cachar to make the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign a people’s celebration of patriotism, unity and national pride, while setting an example of responsible citizenship through respectful observance of the Flag Code.

“The Tricolour belongs to every Indian. Displaying it with pride is an expression of our patriotism; safeguarding its dignity is our collective responsibility,” Cachar DC Rahul Kumar Gupta IAS said

The Administration has urged all sections of society to actively participate in the campaign and encourage children and young people in particular to understand the significance of the National Flag and the values it represents.

As Cachar joins the nation in celebrating the spirit of independence, the District Administration has expressed confidence that the people of the district will observe the campaign with enthusiasm, discipline and deep respect for the Tricolour, making ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ a memorable expression of collective national pride.

The District Administration, Cachar, appeals to all citizens to proudly hoist the Tricolour, respect its dignity and inspire others to do the same.
