Third district of Assam to go under total Lockdown from 9 to 15 July

July 7: As the number of coronavirus cases were increasing by leaps and bound and moreover due to the start of community transmission, complete lockdown was imposed in Guwahati city which falls under Kamrup Metro district. This was followed by imposition of lockdown Following this, lockdown was also imposed in Dima Hasao district of Assam. Now, total lockdown will be imposed in Jorhat district of Assam from 9 to 15 July, 2020.

In order to contain the spread of Covid-19, ‘total lockdown’ to be imposed in areas under the Jorhat Municipal Board from 7 pm of July 9 to July 15. According to the order of the District Magistrate and Chairperson, DDMA, Jorhat, all the weekly huts/markets will remain closed in the entire district by this order. Deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati said that under section 34 of Disaster Management Act 2005, the total lockdown has been imposed in the areas under Jorhat Municipal Board.

Establishment of the Deputy Commissioner including Treasury Establishment, Defense, police and security forces, fire and emergency services, disaster management, electricity, water, sanitation, Jorhat Municipal Board (only staff appointed for essential services like sanitation, water supply, etc.) will be allowed to function.

All transport vehicles and movement of people from other districts shall be suspended — apart from those related to COVID-19 related activity. Inter-state movement to the district will also be suspended except with prior permissions or passes. Holding air or train tickets to and from Jorhat will be allowed on the production of tickets at checkpoints.

Jorhat records a total of 224 positive cases. Of these 68 are presently active, 29 have been admitted in Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH), and 39 have been admitted in Air Force Hospital. The total number of cases in Assam has risen to 12,522 including 8,329 discharged cases, 4,176 active cases and 14 deaths.
