Barak Valley registers 553 Covid +ve cases on Tuesday, 3 deaths recorded

There are 5,965 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 1: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 553 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 810 positive cases. At present, there are 5,965 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 402 positive cases   (It was 528 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 69 positive cases (It was 149 on Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 82 positive cases (It was 133 on Monday)

A total of 402 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Tuesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 6,099 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 301 persons were found positive, whereas 101 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 10,645 in 2021, whereas during the year, 7,229 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,314.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 31 May to 5 PM on 1 June) witnessed demise of 03 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. All three deceased are from Cachar district.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Mannan Sodial (55) from Madhurband, Silchar, Manik Chandra Deb (75) from Azad Hind Road, Silchar and Rohit Bhar (65) from Durgakona, Cachar.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 1 June, there were 309 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 96 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 213 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 25 patients were put under ventilator support and 173 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 50 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 39 of them were discharged. Further, 42 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 82 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. Of the 82 positive cases detected on Tuesday, 72 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 10 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,486 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,586 RAT tests and 323 RT-PCR tests were done. 33 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 133 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Monday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,351.

As of now, in the 55,611 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,340 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 69 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. Of the 69 active cases detected on Tuesday, 57 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test, whereas 12 were tested positive under RT-PCR. The district has currently 1,165 active COVID-19 cases, while 45 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Tuesday. 2,754 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 149 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Monday.

On Tuesday, out of 1,15,513 tests, 4,682 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,15,898. The positivity rate in the state is 4.05 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 403 positive cases during the day. Further, on Tuesday, 51 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,416. The recovery rate is 86.51 percent. On Tuesday, 4,992 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,59,802 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.  At present, there are 51,333 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 51 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 51 deceased, 07 are from Kamrup Metro; 06 are from Dibrugarh; 05 from Kamrup Rural; 04 each from Cachar, Hojai, Nagaon, Sivasagar & Tinsukia; 03 each from Darrang & Jorhat; 02 each from Goalpara & Kokhrajhar; 01 each from Baksa, bongaigaon & Sonitpur. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,416.
