Barak crosses danger level at Annapurnaghat
May 14: Due to incessant rainfall since the last few days, the water level of river Barak started to increase. As per report received from Central Water Commission, water level of Barak at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar at 3 PM on Saturday was flowing above the danger level and was at 19.87 metre. The danger level at this point is 19.83 metre. The water level was rising by 5 cm per hour.
Now adding to the woes of the people, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati has predicted incessant and heavy rainfall over most of the North Eastern states till May 17. This weather condition is a result of moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal over the northeastern states along with strong southerly and southwesterly winds.
