Assam is no longer safe, abandon plans to come back unless necessary, appeals Himanta

May 24: With the number of COVID-19 cases increasing by leaps and bounds in Assam, Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated his appeal to those outside the state not to return unless it is necessary. The minister said that Assam is no longer safe. Those who are planning to come to Assam seeking safety should abandon their plans. People must especially avoid returning in buses and trucks.

Himanta further took a dig at those states were allowing people to return in crowded buses and trucks, thereby resulting in a spike of positive cases in Assam. In a candid language, he said that  Assam government will write to all such states and ask them not to allow transit of those vehicles which are carrying people in violation of social distancing norms. “Originating states should not allow movement of such vehicles,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

On Saturday alone, 87 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Assam. This has taken up the number of coronavirus infected people in the state to 346. Out of the 346 infected persons, 57 of them were already released. At present, there are 282 active cases in the state.
