Barak Valley registers 287 positive cases on Friday

August 21: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 287 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 275 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 160 positive cases   (It was 175 on Thursday)
  • Karimganj: 69 positive cases (It was 57 on Thursday)
  • Hailakandi: 58 positive cases (It was 43 on Thursday)

On Friday, 160 more positive cases were detected from Cachar, thereby taking the day’s tally of Cachar district to 160. With this, Cachar district registered a total of 5195 positive cases till date. With one more death approved by the State Audit Board, the death tally of the district has gone upto 20. During the day, 90 persons tested positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 70 persons were detected positive in RT-PCR Test (1st slot- 35 +ve cases, 2nd slot- 18 +ve cases & 3rd slot-17 positive cases).

Further, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) informed that at present, 15 COVID-19 positive patients are in a critical stage and are undergoing treatment. He added that at present, 16 corona positive patients are there in the ICU of SMCH and 2 were put in ventilator. A total of 256 positive patients are now admitted at SMCH, out of which, 156 are male and 100 of them are female. Two doctors also tested positive during the day. A junior doctor, Deep Kaushik (27) from Old PG Hostel, SMCH. He came in contact with a confirmed case and is now symptomatic. Dr. Rajarshi Bhowal (40) from Meherpur, 73-year-old male from Panchayat Road was also tested positive.

58 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Friday, taking the total tally to 1,883. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 58 positive cases detected on Friday, 44 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 14 under RT-PCR.

Altogether 962 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,415 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 455. Five COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Seven deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. 128 numbers of COVID-19 patients are under home isolation.

Karimganj district registered 69 new COVID-19 positive cases on Friday. Out of 69 positive cases, 37 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 32 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. Till now, 1842 persons were detected as coronavirus positive in Karimganj, out of which, 736 patients have recovered. During the day, 480 Rapid Tests were done. The district also witnessed one more COVID-19 death. The deceased was identified as  Jashomanta Dutta (66).

Apart from the valley, a total of 1856 persons tested positive in Assam on Friday, thereby taking the state tally to 87,908. As of now, there are 22,082 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 2476 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 65,596 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 06 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 227.

India has logged 68,898 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours with 983 deaths, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday. The total number of cases in the country has now shot up to 29,05,823 with 54,849 deaths. A total of 21,58,946 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the infection, taking the recovery rate to 74.30 per cent, the ministry said on Friday.

Meanwhile, across the world, there have been a total of 2,26,57,915 confirmed coronavirus cases, according to the latest update. This includes 73,44,866 people who are being treated, 1,45,19,591 who have recovered and 7,93,458 who have died.
