AIUDF looks forward to support a Congress Chief Minister after 2 May: Badruddin Ajmal

March 30: Ending all speculations of Badruddin Ajmal becoming the Chief Minister of Assam, once the grand alliance comes to power, the AIUDF supremo himself took to his twitter handle to refute this claim. BJP leaders have been speculating that Ajmal may dictate terms in the selection of the next Chief Minister of Assam. This claim has been carried forward among the masses more by BJP heavyweight leader Himanta Biswa Sarma during his electoral speeches.

Ajmal’s affirmation that he is not in the race for the post of Chief Minister has given solace to the Congress brigade. Atleast, the Congress leaders are now in a position to convince the voters that the Chief Minister in Assam will be from the Congress, if at all the grand alliance comes to power.

Taking to his twitter handle, Maulana Badauddin Ajmal wrote, “I am very happy to hear from my friends in upper Assam that the Congress led #Mahajot has swept the first phase. The lowest figure I am hearing from anyone is 30 seats. AIUDF looks forward to supporting a Congress Chief Minister after 2 May.”

In another Facebook post Ajmal said, “My view is that a specific news channel in Assam conducts an online survey on who will be the next Chief Minister of Assam. The channel has included my name in the possible list. Even after I have clarified that AIUDF team will never accept the post of Assam Chief Minister. I don’t know if there is any political motive behind the publicity done like this. But I want to make it clear once again that I do not have the desire to become the Chief Minister”.

The 1st phase of Assam Assembly polls has been over on 27 March. The 2nd and the 3rd phases will be held on 1 April and 6 April respectively. The counting of votes will be done on 2 May, 2021.
