Cachar registers 236 new COVID-19 positive cases on Monday, district tally rises to 4473

August 17: The number of coronavirus positive cases are again on the rise in Cachar district. On Monday, Cachar registered 236 fresh cases of COVID-19, out of which, 215 persons were detected positive as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 21 of them were found positive in RT-PCR Test. A total of 1473 rapid tests were done in the district on Monday. With this, the district tally of coronavirus positive cases has reached 4473 as of now. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert.

Mr. Choudhury also said that many patients were found positive who came for testing quite late inspite of having severe symptoms since last few days. Such patients were obviously detected positive and were rushed to Silchar Medical College & Hospital. He said, “This type of cases are very risky. Please don’t wait at your home if you have any such symptoms. Such type of delay might invite severe complexities and may be fatal. So please come for doing tests. You should not fear getting tested. Rather you should be scared if after having symptoms you do not come forward and get tested.” He also said that the patients must keep the hospitals clean and not litter the place.

He further added that positive patients while seeking home isolation must make correct declaration. If they have any kind of complexities or if they are symptomatic, then they should never opt for home isolation. He added, “Many patients have opted for home isolation claiming that they have no ailments. But suddenly in the middle of the night, we get calls from such patients stating that they are feeling seriously ill and immediately we have to arrange for ambulance to take them to SMCH. We have increased the number of seats in COVID Care Centres. Around 1500 seats are till now available. So I would appeal that if you feel that you are having symptoms, please tell us and get admitted in the hospital.”

In the 1st slot of RT-PCR Test results, 8 persons tested positive. The positive cases were detected from varios parts of the district including Tarapur Shib Bari Road Pt-VIII, Apanjan Pally at Sonai Road, Radhamadhab Road, Narsingtola, Meherpur Shibalik Park, Uttar Krishnapur Pt-I and Saidpur Part-3.

In the 1st slot of RT-PCR Test results, 9 persons were found positive. They are from Itkhola, N.N. Dutta Road, Rangirkhari, Uttarayan Complex (National Highway), Digarkhal, CISF Kumbirgram, Kalain, CIAT School in Doyapur and Assam Rifles, Cachar.

The 3rd slot of RT-PCR Test contained results of 4 positive persons from Cachar district. They are from Digarkhal, Kalain and Kumbirgram.

Five more Covid Care Centres have come up in Cachar district. These are Assam University, Silchar (500-bedded capacity), NIT, Silchar (300-bedded capacity), Don Bosco School, Silchar (300-bedded capacity), Judhistar Saha HS School (130-bedded capacity), Kachudaram Model Hospital (180-bedded capacity). This was done keeping in consideration the increasing load of asymptomatic COVID positive cases in the district and to reduce bed occupancy at SMCH and other hospitals.

With a view to providing medical assistance and counselling to the COVID-19 patients who opt for home isolation, a telemedicine centre has been set up at SM Dev Civil Hospital. Any COVID-19 patient under home isolation can contact telemedicine centre No.7099248937 for any health-related queries.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, while interacting with newsmen at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) told that a 50-bedded ICU will soon come up at SMCH within the next 10 days. He further added that around 60 general beds in Covid Ward shall be increased soon. Taking a dig at the numerous complaints about food by patients admitted at SMCH, Dr. Roy said, “Whatever food is served, they will have to eat it. In Medical College one cannot expect to get food of 5 star hotels. If you want good food, you should go to good hotel. One should remember that you come here for treatment and whatever food the government provides, you will have to eat that food.”

He further said, “Here the doctors are limited, infrastructure is limited and the disease has acquired an unlimited proportion. 10 to 12 doctors are now working round the clock. Earlier, they used to treat around 20 patients a day, but now, they have to take care of around 250 patients. Further, many a times, these doctors even have to serve food and clean the drains. I urge upon the media fraternity to write these positive aspects and thereby inspire the health workers to do work with enthusiasm.”
