Cachar administration holds preparatory meeting for 74th Independence Day function

July 31: A preparatory meeting in connection with the 74th Independence Day celebrations was held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner Cachar on Friday.

Presiding over the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajib Roy reviewed the progress pertaining to implementation of programmes of the ensuing 74th Independence Day by maintaining COVID-19 protocols, social distancing and wearing of masks in view of COVID-19 pandemic situation in the district. Roy instructed the officials concerned to complete all preparatory works two days prior to the ceremony.

After threadbare discussions, the meeting unanimously decided to select DSA Ground, Silchar as the venue for the ceremonial flag hoisting. It was informed in the meeting that relay of patriot songs will be from 5 am to 6.30 am through FLS of Regional Office of Information and Public Relations Barak Valley Region followed by hoisting of the national tricolour at private residences and establishments by all citizens at 7 am.

Hoisting of the National Fag at all government office buildings and educational institutions will be held at 7.45 am followed by community singing of the National Anthem. At 8.35 am floral tribute will be paid to the Father of the Nation at the Gandhi Bagh followed by Swahid Tarpan. Ceremonial unfurling of the National Flag at DSA Ground at 9 am will be followed by a combined parade by CRPF, police personnel, 6th AP Bn, Home Guards and NCC Scouts and Guides.

At 10 am doctors, health workers, sanitisation workers and other corona warriors will be felicitated. At 6 pm statues and rotaries in different parts of Silchar town as well as government buildings and private residences will be illuminated.

During the meeting, discussion was also held to organise essay competition through digital platform avoiding gatherings in which all school students can participate online. The Inspector of Schools and the DEEO, Cachar were asked to organise the event in a befitting manner. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Roy instructed that all the programmes to be organised at the respective development blocks have to be chalked out at each block level and requested all departments to extend their unstinted support and cooperation to make the 74th Independence Day celebrations a grand success. All BDOs have been directed to coordinate in connection with organising functions at the block level.

The Joint Director of Health Services was also asked to arrange proper sanitisation with thermal screening at the two entry gates of DSA in view of COVID-19 pandemic situation. The meeting was also attended by Police Super, Bhanwar Lal Meena and Additional Superintendent of Police Jagadish Das.
