Maharashtra moves Supreme Court against UGC’s order to hold final exam by September

July 19: The University Grants Commission (UGC) in its latest notification has directed all higher educational institutions to conduct the final semester/year examinations by September-end. However, for intermediate semester, the UGC has scrapped the examination and asked the universities and colleges to evaluate the students on the basis of 50 percent of marks from Internal Assessment and 50 percent based on the previous semester examination.

However, considering the spike in the number of coronavirus cases, Aditya Thackeray, Minister of Maharashtra government has moved the Supreme Court against the order of UGC to conduct final year exams by the end of September. The petition has been filed by Yuva Sena, youth wing of the Shiv Sena led by Aditya Thackeray. In a statement, the Yuva Sena said, “COVID-19 is a national disaster and UGC has not understood it.”
