Meghalaya will open liquor shops from 11 May, Assam also to open very soon
May 11: Wine stores and bonded warehouses in Meghalaya will open for six days from May 11 to May 16 from 9 am to 4 pm. As per reports, shops in close proximity to the international border and on narrow streets and lanes which may lead to violation of social distancing and in areas with high transmission risk are not allowed to open. Further, sale of liquor shall not exceed 3 litres of foreign liquor or wine and four litres of beer, per customer.
Meanwhile, the Assam government has on Friday decided to increase the price of liquor in the state by 25 per cent on the MRP in order to generate extra revenue to the ongoing loses because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). But since then, liquor shops in the state has been closed till further notice from the government . As per sources, there are a lot of formalities as regards the existing stock. The already existing stock of liquor in the warehouse and shops will be tagged with the new price which the excise has imposed. The sale of liquor will restart in the state once these formalities are over.
