Katirail Yoga Byayam Centre Celebrates 38th Foundation Day

Be Conscious of Regular Yoga Practice: Dr. Swapan Das

Way2barak, October 3 : Veteran physician Dr. Swapan Kumar Das urged people to cultivate awareness regarding regular yoga practice, emphasizing that relying solely on medication cannot keep the body and mind vibrant, and that consistent practice remains essential for a stress-free life. Addressing an event at Badarpurghat in Katigorah on the occasion of the 38th foundation day of the Katirail Yoga Centre, Dr. Das clarified that yoga is not in competition with modern medicine, but rather acts as a complete complementary discipline. He maintained that learning yoga under proper guidance guarantees physical and mental well-being, while appealing to parents to encourage their children to adopt the discipline.

The foundation day celebration commenced on Friday, October 2, at the Roy Villa auditorium with the hoisting of the organizational flag and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Attendees offered floral tributes to the portrait of the centre’s late founder, Yoga Guru Radhesh Chandra Chakraborty. Invited guests including Dr. Swapan Kumar Das, Sitangshu Roy, Subhash Ranjan Chakraborty, Arun Karmakar, and Mansur Ahmed were formally felicitated by Aloka Karmakar and Piu Karmakar on behalf of the organization. Yogacharya Rahul, Director of the Katirail Yoga Centre Foundation, delivered the welcome address.

For the first time, the foundation presented the Yoga Guru Radhesh Memorial Award to honor individuals who, despite not being active practitioners, contributed significantly to the spread of yoga education and the development of the centre. The awardees included prominent educator and social worker Dharani Mohan Deb, Dr. Swapan Kumar Das, social workers Sitangshu Roy and Arun Karmakar, advocate Buddha Pratim Deb, and Badarpur Al Hira National Senior Secondary School as an institutional recipient. Satakshi Bhattacharjee, CEO of the Foundation’s Yoga Science division, presented the mementos and citations. Additionally, dignitaries presented a gift to Himaghna Bhattacharjee, recognized as the last student of the late Yoga Guru.

During their addresses, the invited dignitaries shared their reflections. Sitangshu Roy paid tribute to the lifelong dedication of Yoga Guru Radhesh Chakraborty and pledged support for the development of the centre. Arun Karmakar recounted memories of organizing various initiatives alongside the late guru and commended his role in spreading yoga awareness. Mansur Ahmed, Assistant Secretary of Al Hira School, recalled how yoga training began at their institution through the guidance of Radhesh Chakraborty and the Katirail Yoga Centre, noting that these sessions continue today. Subhash Ranjan Chakraborty also addressed the gathering.

The concluding segment featured a yoga posture demonstration by instructor Ratul Chakraborty, while Dr. Tuhin Deshmukhya presented plant saplings to the school representatives and other guests. Marking the foundation day, the organization announced a year-long schedule of programs alongside the introduction of the Freedom Fighter Sudhendu Ranjan Roy Memorial Award in honor of the centre’s founding president. The event witnessed the presence of Shila Chowdhury, S. Manihar Sinha, Shikha Purkayastha, Subimal Bardhan, Litton Mohammad Jahangir, Sifatul Islam, Najim Uddin, and several other community members.
