way2barak, September 29: -The 48-hour silence period for the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election, 2026, will commence at 4.00 PM on October 1, 2026, across all areas under the jurisdiction of the Silchar Municipal Corporation in Cachar district.

The restriction has been imposed in accordance with the provisions of Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, governing the period immediately preceding the close of poll. Polling for the Silchar Municipal Corporation election is scheduled for October 3, with voting scheduled from 7.30 AM to 4 PM.

During the silence period, public meetings, processions and all election-related campaigning will be prohibited. Display of election matter to the public through print, electronic or social media will also not be permitted.

Candidates, political parties, workers and supporters have been directed not to canvass for votes through any mode, including bulk SMS, telephone calls or social media posts. Any activity intended to influence voters during the prohibited period will similarly be prohibited.

The authorities have appealed to all contesting candidates and political parties to ensure that their workers and supporters strictly follow the restrictions once the silence period comes into force.Specific instructions have also been issued for October 3, the day of polling to ensure orderly conduct around polling stations.

Only one vehicle each will be permitted for candidates, election agents and candidates’ workers or party workers, as applicable. The permits issued for such vehicles must be displayed prominently on the windscreen.The authorised vehicles must not be used for carrying voters.Campaign-related posters or banners will not be permitted within 100 metres of any polling booth. The use of loudspeakers, megaphones and similar equipment, as well as disorderly conduct, will also be prohibited within 100 metres of polling stations.

The restrictions are part of the arrangements for ensuring that voters can exercise their franchise without campaigning activity or other prohibited election-related influence in the immediate vicinity of polling stations.
