Minister Krishnendu Paul and Kaushik Rai review major road and infrastructure works 

way2barak, September 9:-– Major road and infrastructure projects across Barak Valley came under detailed review on Wednesday as Minister of Barak Valley Development Department , Krishnendu Paul chaired a high-level review meeting held at Assam Secretariat Barak valley, Silchar with Minister of Food, Public Distribution and Housing and Urban affairs and Cooperation, Kaushik Rai taking part in the deliberations on the progress of key projects across Cachar, Sribhumi and Hailakandi.

The meeting focused on the progress of roads and infrastructure being constructed under Bharatmala, Asom Mala, PMGSY and other Central and State Government schemes, besides major projects such as the Silchar -Barapani Express Highway, Silchar town flyovers, medical college infrastructure and important road corridors. The Ministers reviewed the status of the works, discussed problems being faced during construction and directed the concerned departments and executing agencies to find early solutions and maintain the pace of implementation.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Krishnendu Paul said that smooth connectivity is an important measure of the development and progress of any region. He said the Central and State Governments have taken up a number of road development and infrastructure projects across Barak Valley and stressed that these works must be executed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising quality.

Minister Paul gave particular importance to the condition of roads ahead of the Durga Puja festival. He directed the concerned departments to ensure that roads throughout Barak Valley are made convenient for public movement before the festival so that people do not face unnecessary difficulties during the period of increased movement.

Minister Kaushik Rai,who participated in the review along with Minister Krishnendu Paul took part in the discussions on the progress of the major projects and the problems affecting their implementation. He stressed the need for close coordination among the departments, field officials and construction agencies so that projects do not remain delayed because of issues that can be resolved through timely administrative intervention.

Both the Ministers sought project-wise updates from the officials and examined both the physical progress of construction and the difficulties being encountered at the implementation stage. They directed the concerned agencies to accelerate work and complete the projects within the prescribed timelines.

Among the major projects reviewed was the Silchar-Barapani Express Highway, an important road link for Barak Valley. The Ministers reviewed the progress of roads being constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana across the three districts of the valley.

The progress of roads under the Asom Mala programme and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was also reviewed by the Ministers. The Ministers took up the road construction works from Manowar to Panchgram and Silchar to churaibari besides discussing other important road projects being implemented across the region.

The proposed construction of a permanent road bridge over the Barak River at Gandhighat was also reviewed. The Ministers asked the Officials to provide updates on the status of the project and take necessary steps to keep the work moving according to schedule.

The ongoing flyover construction in Silchar town was also taken up prominently in the discussions. With increasing traffic movement in the town, the project has a direct bearing on urban mobility and traffic management. The authorities were asked to closely monitor the construction and address issues affecting its progress.

The Ministers also reviewed the road work from Birbal Bazar to Silchar Medical College, an important route providing access to the medical institution and surrounding areas. The Ministers reviewd the progress of the work and the measures required for its timely completion.

The construction of Sribhumi Medical College was another major project reviewed during the meeting. The Ministers sought details of the construction progress and directed the concerned authorities to ensure timely execution while maintaining the prescribed standards.

The Silchar District Commissioner’s Office building was also reviewed along with the repair and improvement of roads connecting Silchar Medical College and Assam University. The authorities were asked to ensure that these important access routes remain convenient for regular movement of students, patients, employees and the general public.

Minister Krishnendu Paul directed the officials to ensure that the various ambitious schemes being implemented for the development of Barak Valley are completed within the stipulated period and to the required quality standards. He made it clear that negligence in the execution of development works would not be accepted.

The Minister also called upon the officials to approach their responsibilities with a spirit of public service and remain personally attentive to the progress of projects under their respective jurisdictions. He stressed that the ultimate purpose of infrastructure development is to provide better facilities and easier movement for the people.

Minister Kaushik Rai also participated in the detailed assessment of the projects and the discussions on implementation-related difficulties. The Minister directed the concerned departments and construction agencies to maintain regular coordination, identify bottlenecks at an early stage and take prompt corrective action.

The review also covered other important development projects being implemented across Barak Valley. The emphasis remained on faster execution, closer field-level monitoring and timely resolution of problems so that the benefits of the projects reach the people without avoidable delay.

The meeting brought together elected representatives, district administrations and senior officials of departments and agencies associated with the execution of the projects allowing issues concerning different districts and individual works to be discussed at a common forum.

MLAs Bijoy Malakar, Rajdeep Goala, Amiya Kanti Das, Aminul Haque Laskar, Zubeir Enam Mazumdar and Aminul Rashid Choudhury also participated in the review meeting.

Cachar District Commissioner ,Rahul Kumar Gupta, Shribhumi District Commissioner Pradip Kumar Dwivedi and Hailakandi District Commissioner, Joy Bikash were present at the meeting and apprised the Ministers of the progress of projects and implementation related issues in their respective districts.

Additional Secretary of the Barak Valley Development Department Aditya Bikram Yadav, Commissioner and Special Secretary of the Public Works Department Sanjib Shyam, Executive Director of NHIDCL, Nirman Kishan Jambhulkar along with senior officials of the Power Department, Forest Department and other concerned departments, were also present.

The meeting concluded with the directions from the Ministers for faster execution, closer monitoring, timely removal of bottlenecks and adherence to quality standards to the concerned departments and executing agencies were asked to maintain the required pace so that the major infrastructure projects across Barak Valley can be completed within the prescribed timelines.
