Dept. of Physics AUS Celebrates National Science Day 2025

Way2barak, 28 February : The Department of Physics, Assam University, Silchar, celebrated National Science Day with great enthusiasm and participation from faculty members, students, research scholars, and invited guests. The event highlighted the significance of scientific progress and aimed to inspire young minds to develop a scientific temperament.
The inaugural program was graced by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rajive Mohan Panth; Dean of the Albert Einstein School of Physical Sciences, Prof. Karabi Dutta Choudhuri; Head of the Physics Department, Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das; and the Coordinator of National Science Day 2025, Dr. Swarnadeep Biswas. They were present on the newly constructed dais in the Meghnad Saha Conference Room, which was inaugurated during the event by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, along with the Dean, Head, and other faculty members.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, followed by Dr. Swarnadeep Biswas, who explained the significance of National Science Day. Prof. Karabi Dutta Choudhuri reflected on the contributions of ancient Indian mathematicians, physicists, and researchers to the field of science. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Panth emphasized the importance of fostering a scientific mindset among young students. He encouraged school students to develop an interest in science and personally interacted with them on the dais.

The program also featured insightful speeches by Prof. Atri Deshamukhya and Dr. Mahananda Baro. Faculty members present included Dr. Pradeep K. Shukla and Dr. Utpal Sarkar, with Dr. Sarkar delivering the vote of thanks.
The celebration witnessed participation from 40 students of Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya, Borojalenga; Irongmara High School; and Irongmara L.P. School. An art competition on a science-related theme was organized for them, receiving enthusiastic participation. Additionally, 50 postgraduate students from the department attended the event, engaging in a science quiz competition organized as part of the celebrations.

The technical session before lunch featured an online talk by Prof. Anirban Pathak from JIIT, Noida, on the topic “How is Physics Related to Other Domains of Science, Engineering, and Entertainment?” The session proved to be highly beneficial for students.
In the post-lunch session, Dr. Shyama Narendranath K.C. from the Space Science Division, Space Astronomy Group, ISITE Campus, ISRO, delivered an engaging talk titled “Lunar Science and Exploration: The Journey is as Exciting as the Destination.” Additionally, Dr. Shahar Vatinsky from Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, visited the department and interacted with students and scholars.
Furthermore, Dr. K. Raghavendra, Scientist ‘SG’ from ISRO, visited the department and interacted with students, further enriching the academic discourse.
The program was hosted by PhD scholars Miss Deity Basumatary and Miss Deivica Dkhar. Other research scholars actively involved in the event included Mr. Bhaskar Goswami, Ashique Zaman, Poulami Palit, Sumi Bhattacharjee, Shraboni Ray, Seram Rebika Devi, Borsha Paul, Bevan K. Bithai, and K. Vasker Singh, along with several postgraduate students.
The celebration of National Science Day 2025 at Assam University, Silchar, successfully fostered scientific curiosity and engagement, leaving a lasting impact on students and participants alike.
