Gandhibagh Park in its new incarnation inaugurated by Ashok Singhal
Aug. 6: After remaining closed for a long time, finally the Gandhibagh Park at Silchar was inaugurated on Saturday by Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal in the presence of Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha and others. In their presence, children also took a ride of the toy train.
The park was renovated under the Amrut Scheme. Airing his views, Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal said, “The aesthetic & harmonious atmosphere of the park will be an attraction for the public & tourists. I also request the concerned officers to keep the park clean.”
A new mini open air theatre along with a gallery has been constructed within the park. Apart from this, work of installation of metal junk items was also done. All these have added to the beauty of the park.
The metal junk decorative items were conceptualised and visualised by a creative team headed by Gautam Dutta (Honorary President), Assistant Professor, Dept of Visual Arts, Assam University (AUS) as the Project Coordinator with inputs from Dr Nirmal Kanti Roy (Honorary Secretary) Professor of Visual Arts AUS and Dr Debasish Chakraborty (Honorary Treasurer), Asstt Professor, Dept of Visual Arts, AUS.
The design execution team of the metal junk decorative items for Gandhi Bagh Park comprises of Prasenjit Kr Saha, Suita Huindrom, Ratan Kumar Sarma, Ankit Das and Shaswati Dutta. All of them are alumni of the Department of Visual Arts, Assam University, Silchar. Apart from them two more persons are involved in this project. They are Sahil Ahmed Majumder (ITI Wielding) and Jakir Hussain Barbhuiya (Welder).
