AGM of ACTA Cachar Zone held; Chandan, Sudarshan, Hemanta at the helm of affairs

Dec 2: The XVth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA), Cachar Zone was held in the premises of Radhamadhab College, Silchar on Thursday. ACTA Cachar Zone comprises of 8 colleges- GC College, Cachar College, Women’s College, Radhamadhab College, Nehru College- Pailapool, MCD College- Sonai, Janata College- Kabuganj and Jagannath Singh College- Udharbond.

The XVth AGM of ACTA Cachar Zone was also attended by leaders from the central committee of the association. They are Himangshu Moral- General Secretary, Dr Anupam Dutta- Academic Secretary, Executive Committee members Dr Jayanta Boruah, Sanjib Phukan and Dr Prem Kanta Borah. Apart from them, two veteran members of ACTA Dr Santosh Ranjan Chakraborty and Dr Dipankar Kar (now retired) also graced the occasion.

The programme began with hoisting the flag of ACTA by Swadesh Ranjan Das, President in-charge of Cachar Zone who also presided over the inaugural session which was graced by Dr Debasish Roy, Principal of the host college, Rajat Subhro Paul- Observer of the AGM. The stage was dedicated in the memory of Late Dr Jayati Chakraborty, an Assistant Professor of Bengali in Women’s College, who lost her life due to Covid-19 this year. This was followed by a special lecture on “NEP 2020” which was delivered by Prof. Niranjan Roy of Assam University.

During the delegate session, various issues related to the college teachers were discussed. Participating in the discussion, Himangshu Moral, General Secretary of ACTA addressed the issues raised by the college teachers. This was followed by formation of the new Zonal Committee of ACTA Cachar Zone. Chandan Paul Choudhury of GC College, Silchar and Hemanta Bora of Cachar College, Silchar were elected unopposed as President and Secretary of Cachar Zone respectively. Apart from them, Sudarshan Gupta from Radhamadhab College, Silchar was also elected unopposed as the Central Executive Committee Member (CECM). He will be representing ACTA Cachar Zone in the central committee. Y.P. Singh of Janata College, Kabuganj and Bipul Pator from MCD College, Sonai were selected as the Vice President and Assistant Secretary of ACTA Cachar Zone.

The programme was compered by Sudarshan Gupta. Dr Bidhan Barman acted as the Returning Officer of the Election Cell of the zonal conference.  Arunabha Bhattacharjee delivered the vote of thanks.
