Assam Police ask netizens to report if any pro-Taliban comments made on social media
People are advised to be careful in posts/likes etc on social media platforms to avoid penal action: Assam Police
Aug 21: “Assam Police are taking stern legal action against pro-Taliban comments in the social media platform that are harmful to the National Security. We’re registering criminal cases against such persons. Please inform the police if any such thing comes to your notice.” This was tweeted on Saturday by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Assam.
Earlier during the day, GP Singh, Special DGP, Assam informed, “Assam Police has arrested 14 persons for social media posts regarding Taliban activities that have attracted provisions of law of the land.People are advised to be careful in posts/likes etc on social media platforms to avoid penal action.”

Reacting to such ugly developments, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “Need cooperation from every one to maintain peace and harmony. I have directed Assam Police to act without fear and favour.” The 14 persons arrested by Assam Police are:
- Maulana Fazul Karim (49) from Darrang
- Abu Bakkar Siddique (55) from Kamrup Rural
- Saidul Haque (29) from Kamrup Rural
- Jawed Mazumder from Cachar
- Mozidul Islam (25) from Barpeta
- Faruk Hussain Khan (32) from Barpeta
- Saiyad Ahmed (27) from Dhubri
- Arman Hussain (25) from Dhubri
- Nadim Akthar (23) from Hailakandi
- Khandakar Nur Alam from South Salmara
- Maulana Yaseen Khan (26) from Goalpara
- Maulana Basiruddin Laskar (65) from Hojai
- Mujib Uddin from Karimganj
- Mortuza Hussain Khan from Karimganj
It needs mention here that the 14 arrested include a medicine student, teacher, 3 Maulanas & a news portal journalist. Out of them, Nadim Akthar (23) from hailakandi is an MBBS student of Tezpur Medical College. He was arrested from Hailakandi on Saturday for his Facebook post in support of Taliban.
