District Congress urges DC Cachar to take steps against hoarding of essential items & their price hike

March 23: As the number of coronavirus positive cases are on a rise, majority of the states including Assam has imposed total lockdown to break the chain of the fatal virus and contain its further spread. Even in Assam, lockdown was declared from 6 PM on 24 March till 31 March, 2020. Meanwhile, people everywhere are rushing to purchase essential commodities. But taking chance, some scrupulous merchants and shops have hiked the price of many essential commodities.

It is in this context that a memorandum was addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar by the Silchar District Congress Congress Committee on Monday to take steps so that hoarding and selling of essential commodities by merchants during this crucial time gets foiled. Apart from this, the memorandum also highlighted some other pertinent issues like demand for providing proper gear to emergency service sector workers so that they can protect themselves from COVID-19.

They also stressed upon the defunct water supply in the rural areas, which they said would pose a great difficulty in maintaining the rules of proper hygiene. Shortange of masks and snitisers in the market was another issue of concern raised by the Congress members of Cachar district.

The memorandum signed by former MP and All India Mohila Congress President, Sushmita Dev, former minister Ajit Singh, Sajal Banik, Deboja Sumanta, Sudip Das, Nabadwip Singh and Champak Roy stated mentioned abiding by the government norms of social distancing, they preferred to send it to the Deputy Commissioner instead of leading a delegation.

District Congress Congress Committee concluded their memorandum by reiterating their support and deep gratitude to all doctors, nurses, medical staff and every officer who are providing essential services like the police and administration.
