6 district hospitals including Silchar to be upgraded to super-specialty & medical college to be set up at Karimganj

March 16: Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Wednesday presented the state budget for the year 2022-23. Certain major initiatives in order to improve Healthcare at the grass-root level found place in the budget.

Improving Healthcare at Grassroots: 

  • Expansion of primary healthcare by establishing 1,000 Buniyadi Swasthya Kendras in the State and upgrading of 200 Sub-centres
  • New Ayurvedic Colleges to be set up at Dudhnoi & Palashbari District Hospitals at Barpeta, Silchar, Diphu, Jorhat, Tezpur & Lakhimpur to be upgraded to super-specialty for 23,798 crore.

Miscellaneous:

Sneha Sparsh Plus scheme to cover rehabilitation costs for children suffering from cerebral palsy.

Cancer Care:

  • Construction of seven more cancer hospitals in Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Tezpur, Jorhat, Lakhimpur & Darrang to commence within 2022-23
  • Robotic Surgery Unit for State Cancer Institute, GMCH for Rs15 crore

New Medical Colleges:

  • Three new medical colleges to be set up at Sivasagar, Karimganj & Goalpara, along with a super-specialty hospital at IIT Guwahati.
  • Construction of medical colleges at Dhemaji, Bongaigon, Morigaon, Golaghat & Tamulpur to start this year
  • BSc Nursing College/ GNM Nursing School for each medical college.
