Now Assam govt to provide home delivery of locally unavailable medicines to patients

April 24: The coronavirus pandemic followed by nationwide lockdown has seen Assam government adopting many people friendly measures. On Friday, State Health minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing at NHM Office in Guwahati announced another such scheme. Assam government will now deliver medicines to the doorsteps of patients.

The health minister declared that if anybody could not find any medicine in his locality, then the person can call the helpline number ‘104.’ The health department will then deliver the medicine at the doorsteps of the patient. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that if the cost of the medicine is below Rs.200, then it will be provided free of cost to the patient. However, if the price exceeds Rs.200, then the price is to be paid by the patient on delivery of the medicine to his/home.

It was further informed that those medicines which are available within the district will be delivered within 24 hours. If the medicines are procured from outside the district, then it will take 48 hours for the health department to deliver the same. Those medicines which are not available in Assam, the same shall be procured from other states and will be delivered at home of the patients within a week. The medicines shall be delivered to patients at home with the help of ASHA workers & Multi Purpose Workers (MPWs).

Taking to his twitter handle, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “A new scheme has been launched by GoA under which locally unavailable medicines shall be delivered to patients at home with the help of ASHA workers & Multi Purpose Workers (MPWs). Medicines below Rs 200 will be provided for free to patients.”
