Assam University Concludes Week-Long Online Training on Gender and Justice
আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ‘জেন্ডার অ্যান্ড জাস্টিস’ নিয়ে অনলাইন প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচি সম্পন্ন

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ৭ ডিসেম্বর : আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সমাজকর্ম বিভাগের উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত ‘আন্ডারস্ট্যান্ডিং জেন্ডার, সেক্সচুয়ালিটি, সেক্সচুয়াল হেলথ অ্যান্ড জেন্ডার জাস্টিস’ নিয়ে এক সপ্তাহের অনলাইন প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচি গতকাল শেষ হয়েছে। জেন্ডার সংক্রান্ত জটিল বিষয়গুলোর প্রতি সংবেদনশীলতা ও প্রয়োজনীয় বোধ গড়ে তোলাই প্রশিক্ষণের মূল উদ্দেশ্য ছিল। এতে দেশের বিভিন্ন প্রান্ত থেকে মোট ৯৩ জন অংশগ্রহণ করেন। এরমধ্যে ৬৩ জনই মহিলা ছিলেন।

উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে পৌরোহিত্য করেন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক অসোক কুমার সেন। উদ্বোধনী বক্তৃতা প্রদান করেন মুম্বই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক রিতু দেবান। অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন অধ্যাপক আর. বালাকৃষ্ণন, অধ্যাপক অজয় কুমার সিং, অধ্যাপক জয়তী ভট্টাচার্য, অধ্যাপক এম. তিনেশ্বরী দেবী সহ কর্মসূচির সমন্বয়কারী ড. রত্না হুইরেম ও ড. কাথিরেসান এল।

প্রশিক্ষণের অন্যতম আকর্ষণ ছিল জাতীয় পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্ত প্রতিবন্ধী অধিকার কর্মী আভা খেতরপালের বিশেষ অধিবেশন , যেখানে তিনি প্রতিবন্ধকতা ও যৌনতা নিয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আলোচনা করেন। এছাড়াও সপ্তাহব্যাপী এই কর্মসূচিতে নতুন দিল্লির জওহরলাল নেহেরু বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, জামিয়া মিলিয়া ইসলামিয়া বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, আই আই টি, হায়দরাবাদ ও আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিশেষজ্ঞরা পিতৃতন্ত্র, ইন্টারসেকশনালিটি, প্রজনন অধিকার, ডিজিটাল জেন্ডার পলিটিক্স, যৌন সহিংসতা সহ নানা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন।

সমাপনী বক্তৃতা প্রদান করেন নতুন দিল্লির সেন্টার ফর উইমেন’স ডেভেলপমেন্ট স্টাডিজের প্রাক্তন ডিরেক্টর অধ্যাপক ইন্দু অগ্নিহোত্রী। তিনি ভারতের নারী আন্দোলনের ইতিহাস তুলে ধরে সমকালীন সামাজিক পরিবর্তন নিয়ে গবেষক-শিক্ষকদের সমালোচনামূলক অবস্থান নেওয়ার আহ্বান জানান।

Way2barak, December 7 : Assam University successfully conducted a one-week online Short-Term Training Programme on “Understanding Gender, Sexuality, Sexual Health, and Gender Justice” from 1 to 6 December. Organised by the Department of Social Work under the UGC–MMTTC programme, the training aimed to enhance understanding and sensitivity toward contemporary gender issues.

The programme saw participation from 93 individuals from across the country, including 63 women and 30 men. The participant group represented diverse social backgrounds, including OBC, SC and ST communities, along with two visually challenged women. While most attendees were from the North-Eastern states, participants also joined from northern, southern and western regions of India, largely from social sciences and humanities disciplines.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Asoke Kr. Sen, Vice Chancellor (in-charge) of Assam University. Prof. Ritu Dewan from the University of Mumbai delivered the keynote address on “Actualising Gender Equality: The India Experience.” Over six days, resource persons from JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia, IIT Hyderabad and Assam University conducted sessions on topics such as patriarchy, intersectionality, reproductive rights, digital gender politics and sexual violence.

Dignitaries present at the inaugural session included Prof. R. Balakrishnan, Director, MMTTC; Prof. A.K. Singh, Deputy Director, MMTTC; Prof. Joyati Bhattacharya, Dean, School of Social Sciences; Prof. M. Tineshowri Devi, HoD (i/c), Department of Social Work; programme coordinators Dr. Ratna Huirem and Dr. Kathiresan L.; along with research scholars from the department.

A key highlight was a special session by national award-winning disability rights activist Ms. Abha Khetarpal, who spoke on disability and sexuality, marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.
The valedictory lecture was delivered by Prof. Indu Agnihotri, former Director of the Centre for Women’s Development Studies, New Delhi. She traced the trajectory of the women’s movement in India and urged scholars to critically engage with the evolving socio-political landscape.

Programme coordinators Dr. Ratna Huirem and Dr. Kathiresan L. stated that the training equipped participants with multidimensional perspectives, enabling them to contribute more effectively to inclusive and gender-just academic and professional environments.
