Peace talks over dinner: CM’s of Assam & Mizoram meets in Delhi

Nov. 25: Amid bad blood between the two neighboring states, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Mizoram met in New Delhi on Thursday evening to sort out the border issues. Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga today met Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister for Agriculture and Veterinary, Atul Bora at Assam House in New Delhi. Both the Chief Ministers are supposed to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday.

Taking to his twitter handle, Assam ChiefMinister wrote, “Happy to share that HCM Mizoram Sri @ Zoramthanga CM accepted my dinner invite at Assam House, Delhi. We had a nice dinner and lively evening. It’s always so heartening to have his gracious company. My colleague Sri @ATULBORA2 joined us..”

“The spirit of united #NorthEast. Glad to join Hon’ble CM Dr @himantabiswa and Hon’ble Mizoram CM Shri @ ZoramthangaCM in an evening of bonhomie at Assam House, New Delhi,” tweeted Atul Bora. The 165 km Assam-Mizoram border has many stretches of dispute which have time and again led to clashes between civilians and police forces. Recently 6 Assam Police personnel were killed by Mizo forces in one such border clash.
