Street side vendors running business illegally & causing traffic jam would face strict penal action: SMB

April 27: Since the last few days, the Cachar district administration, district BJP and the local MLA has been actively involved in finding out a plausible solution to the traffic congestion. A delegation of district BJP led by its President Bimalendu Roy met the Superintendent of Police and Executive Officer of Silchar Municipality recently to find out a lasting solution.

It is in this backdrop that the Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) on 27 April issued an order as per which strict direction was given to the roadside vendors who are running their business illegally and thereby also resulting in traffic congestion. The Executive Officer also issued an warning to such vendors to restrain from such activities or else they would face penalties and their sale items too would be confiscated.

The order issued by the Executive Officer of SMB stated, “It has been observed that a large number of road side vendors in the Silchar Municipal Town area continue to run their business illegally encroaching the road side area. Such practices are not merely illegal but also pose grave risk to the human health, also causes hindrance to the day to day movement of vehicles and road passerby.”

It is in this backdrop that SMB “decided that the illegal vendors will have to remove their belongings. In case of violation of this order Silchar Municipal Board will confiscate the sale items and penalties will be imposed on the spot. The sale items will be confiscated by the authorized personnel engaged by the Silchar Municipal Board.”

Issuing a strict dictum to such ‘erring vendors’, the Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Board stated that “this order will come into force with immediate effect.” Taking to its social media page, District Administration Cachar wrote, “Notices are being issued to street hawkers who have occupied public roads illegally to vacate the premises as they are causing major traffic jams and reducing the pliable road area for smooth movement of vehicles. Request all encroachers to leave Govt land as massive eviction is going to be taken up soon.”

A copy of this order by the SMB was also marked to the Bazar Supervisors of Fatak Bazar, New Market, Itkhola Market, Satsang Nagar Market, National Highway Market etc. for information and necessary action.
