Barak Valley registers 473 Covid +ve cases on Tuesday; 3 deaths registered

Active cases 2,174 in Barak Valley

May 11: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 473 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 618 positive cases. At present, there are 2,174 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 262 positive cases   (It was 369 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 110 positive cases (It was 153 on Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 101 positive cases (It was 96 on Monday)

A total of 262 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Tuesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 2,617 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 203 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 59 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Tuesday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 3,050 in 2021, whereas during the year, 2,046 patients were discharged. There are 981 active cases in Cachar.

Tuesday witnessed demise of two more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) & 01 at Cachar cancer Hospital. Their detail reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. The deceased were identified as:

  • Jiten Chandra Das (67) from Chandrapur at Lala in Hailakandi was admitted at SMCH on 9 May. He, however, breathed his last at 4.50 AM on 11 May, 2021.
  • Dilip Kumar Singh (65) also from Lala in Hailakandi was admitted at SMCH on 5 May. He succumbed to the infection at 10.30 AM on 11 May.
  • Rita Nunia (25) from Silkuri died at Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre  at 5 PM on 11 May. However, till the filing of this report, further details were not available about her.

Hailakandi registered 101 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. Of the 101 positive cases detected on Tuesday, 96 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 05 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 475 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,581 RAT tests and 70 RT-PCR tests were done. 31 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 96 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Monday.

Karimganj reported 110 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,424. Of the 110 active cases detected on Tuesday, 94 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 16 under RT-PCR. The district has altogether 718 active COVID-19 cases while 72 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Tuesday. Meanwhile, due to surge in COVID-19 cases, the district administration has converted the Indoor Stadium situated at Brojendra Road as COVID Care Centre.

On Tuesday, out of 68,572 tests, 6,258 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. This is the highest single day spike in the number of Covid cases in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,04,429. The positivity rate in the state is 9.13 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,585 positive cases during the day. Further, on Tuesday, 85 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. This is the highest single day death toll in Assam due to coronavirus. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,838. On Tuesday, 4,409 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,61,980 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.

Further, during the day, 85 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 85 deceased, 35 are from Kamrup Metro; 07 from Dibrugarh; 06 from Nagaon; 05 from Kamrup Rural; 04 each from Barpeta, Sivasagar & Sonitpur; 03 each from Jorhat & Tinsukia; 02 each from Cachar, Goalpara, Hailakandi & Nalbari; 01 each from Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Golaghat, Hojai & Karbi Anglong. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,838.
