After Omicron its now new variant ‘Deltacron’ worrying researchers

Jan. 9: The world now seems to be in the grip of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. However, at the same time, a new strain that combines Delta and Omicron and named as “Deltacron” has became the cause of concern. This new variant has been found in Cyprus. This discovery was reported by Leondios Kostrikis, Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Cyprus and Head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Virology. Kostrikis and his team has found 25 such cases. Deltacron has presence of Omicron-like genetic signatures within the Delta genomes, as per Prof. Kostrikis.
