There has been a crisis of Covaxin in the state, which has become a major cause of concern for all those who had taken their 1st dose and is awaiting for their next jab. At present, Covishield is being administered in majority of the districts of Assam. Such a situation was also reported from Cachar district. The Cachar district administration has kick started a ward-wise vaccination drive at 28 centres in urban Silchar on Friday where people were being administered Covishield.
Meanwhile, many were seen to express helplessness as regards availing the 2nd dose of Covaxin. At present, Covaxin is not available in the vaccination centres in Cachar. For them, who had taken Covaxin as the first dose, their date for the 2nd dose is already due or will be due soon, and so these people are in great anxiety.
Earlier, on Friday, the state Health Minister Keshab Mahanta stated that as per available data, around 1.5 lakh people in the state would have to be administered the 2nd dose of Covaxin who have already availed the 1st dose. Keshab Mahanta said that the government will definitely procure Covaxin for these people and they need not worry. The minister also stated that as of now, Covaxin would not be administered as 1st dose.
