ULFA(I) Flags found hoisted in schools of several districts of Assam
November 28: In a sensational development, flags of outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom, Independent (ULFA-I) were found unfurled in several schools of Assam including Guwahati on Wednesday morning. In Guwahati alone, two such flags were found to flutter at Hegrabari and Borbari. Out of the two flags, one was at Borbari High School and the other was found hoisted in a hillock in Guwahati. Local people informed the police after witnessing the flags. Police team from Dispur police station seized the flags and took the same into their possession.
In another incident, the flag of the militant outfit ULFA-I was found flying in the compound of the Nagadhuli Janajati H.S. School in Mariani, Jorhat also on Wednesday morning. Locals informed the police at once. Mariani police reached the spot and removed the flag.
Again, at Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts of Upper Assam, flags of the proscribed militant outfit ULFA(I) were found. In Lakhimpur, the flag was found flying in the compound of the Dakhin Dhalpur Balika Higher Secondary School in Narayanpur while in Dhemaji, it was found flying along the NH No 15 in Chamrajaan. On being informed, police reached the spot and immediately removed the flags.
It needs mention here that November 28 is observed by ULFA as a protest day against the ‘Operation Bajrang’ launched on November 27 way back in 1990. Though Assam police claimed of tightening security ahead of the so-called Protest Day, yet the unfurling of these flags by the outfit is viewed by concerned citizens as serious lapse in law and order scenario of the state. Regarding flags found hoisted in different schools, the guardians have expressed a sense of fear and were scared of sending their wards to the school. Police sources revealed that investigation in this regard is on.
