Delegation of BJP MPs from Assam meet PM Modi to discuss flood situation in the state

July 19: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP’s from Assam met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday to discuss about the havoc payed by flood in the state and to seek centre’s special assistance in tackling the catastrophe. The delegation was led by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Rameswar Teli.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister wherein they asked the Prime Minister to consider for a special package for the Central Flagship Projects like PMGSY, PMAY, PMKSY as roads, houses and crops have been damaged due to the ravaging floods. For effective flood management and erosion control in the state, an additional fund under the Flood Management and Border Areas Programme (FMBAP) Scheme was also demanded.

Further, appeal was made for a Special Central Assistance to the flood-affected areas in Assam to tackle and protect the “repeated loss of life, land, damage to crops and property, loss of wildlife due to floods that occur every year. It was learnt that the Prime Minister assured all support to flood victims of Assam.

The delegation also included – Dr. Rajdeep Roy (MP, Silchar), Kripanath Mallah (MP, Karimganj), Kamakhya Prasad Tasa (MP, Rajya Sabha), Pallab Lochan Das (MP, Rajya Sabha), Pradan Baruah (MP, Lakhimpur), Topon Kumar Gogoi (MP, Jorhat), Dilip Saikia (MP, Mangaldai), Horen Singh Bey (MP, Autonomous Council) and Queen Oja (MP, Gauhati).

It needs mention here that as of July 18, a total of 4,128 villages in 103 revenue circles of 28 districts have been affected due to floods and over 53,52,107 people have been affected in the state.
