77 tests Covid-19 +ve in Karimganj on Wednesday; 43 discharged, 2 deaths registered

Active cases 263 in Karimganj

May 5: On Wednesday, out of 727 Covid tests done, 77 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. This is the highest single day spike in the number of coronavirus cases in Karimganj this year.  Further, during the day, 43 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 263 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, 62 persons were found positive in Karimganj.

On Wednesday Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) witnessed deaths of two Covid-19 positive patients. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Wednesday night. The deceased were identified as:

  • Nayan Das (34) from Badarpur in Karimganj was admitted at SMCH on 30 April, 2021. He at present used to stay at Meherpur. A dance teacher by profession, Nayan Das breathed his last at 8.45 AM on 5 May.
  • Shyamal Das (55) from Karimganj was admitted at SMCH on 27 April. He died at 12.34 PM on 5 May.

As per protocol, the death details have been forwarded to the State Death Audit Board in Guwahati for final certification of Covid or non-Covid death.
