Barak Valley registers 208 Covid +ve cases on Wednesday, 352 discharged & 4 deaths recorded
There are 3,006 active Covid cases in Barak Valley
June 23: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was considerably less. A total of 208 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 352 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 3,006 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 307 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 129 positive cases (It was 203 on Tuesday)
- Karimganj: 67 positive cases (It was 87 on Tuesday)
- Hailakandi: 12 positive cases (It was 17 on Tuesday)
A total of 129 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 21,162 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 97 persons were found positive, whereas 32 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 16,948, whereas during this phase, 15,158 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,629. Also, 209 patients were discharged during the day. Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 22 June to 5 PM on 23 June) witnessed demise of 04 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 4 deceased, 02 are from Cachar district and 02 from Karimganj district.
The deceased were identified as Akhil Suklabaidya (58) from Kamalpur in Karimganj district, Sumanta Roy (39) from Sarat Pally, Silchar, Pushpa Rani Saha (65) from Das Colony (Panchayat Road), Silchar and Suridhi Acharje (77) from Bajarighat in Karimganj district.
Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 23 June, there were 128 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 73 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 55 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 11 patients were put under ventilator support and 92 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 18 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH but none were discharged.
Hailakandi registered only 12 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Of the 12 positive cases detected on Wednesday, 11 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 01 person was found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 425 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,748 RAT tests and 361 RT-PCR tests were done. 52 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,416. As of now, a total of 3,574 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 17 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Tuesday.
Karimganj registered 67 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The district has currently 952 active COVID-19 cases, while 91 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Wednesday. 5,131 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 87 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, out of 1,66,227 tests, 2,728 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,90,907. The positivity rate in the state is 1.64 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 187 positive cases during the day. Further, on Wednesday, 30 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,310. The recovery rate is 92.63 percent. On Wednesday, 3,802 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,54,726 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 30,524 active cases in the state.
Further, during the day, 30 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 30 deceased, 04 each are from Sonitpur; 05 from Nagaon; 03 each from Cachar & Kamrup Metro; 02 from Nalbari; 01 each from Baksa, Biswanath, Chirang, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Kamrup Rural, Karimganj, Morigaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara & Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,310.
