One-Day Training on Disaster Management Held at Jagannath Singh College

way2barak, June 24: A One-Day Training Programme on Disaster Management and Emergency Response was successfully organized on June 24, 2026, at the campus of Jagannath Singh College, Udharbond, Cachar. The programme was jointly organized by the NSS Unit of Jagannath Singh College and the 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Guwahati, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college.
The training programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness and equipping students, volunteers, and participants with essential knowledge and practical skills required for disaster preparedness and emergency response. The programme covered a wide range of topics including basic concepts of disaster preparedness, first aid techniques, search and rescue operations, flood safety measures, evacuation procedures, and other life-saving skills necessary during emergencies and natural disasters.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the officers and jawans of the 1st Battalion, NDRF, Guwahati. As a mark of respect and appreciation for their dedicated service in saving lives during emergencies and disaster situations, the college authority felicitated all the NDRF personnel present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal of Jagannath Singh College, Dr. S. Somarendro Singha, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness in today’s world. He appreciated the efforts of the NSS Unit and the NDRF in organizing such a meaningful and practical training programme for the benefit of students and the local community.
In his keynote address, Dr. Shyam Mamud Barbhuiya, NSS Programme Officer of the college, emphasized the significance of disaster management education. He stated that although natural disasters cannot be prevented, their devastating effects can be significantly minimized through proper disaster management skills and effective emergency response mechanisms. He encouraged the participants to actively engage in the training sessions and acquire the knowledge necessary to respond effectively during crises.
The main resource person of the programme was Inspector Raushan Kumar Singh of the 1st Battalion, NDRF, Guwahati. During his sessions, he provided detailed insights into various aspects of disaster management and emergency response. He explained the importance of preparedness, quick response, teamwork, and community participation in reducing disaster risks and ensuring public safety.

A major attraction of the programme was the hands-on demonstration conducted by the NDRF team. Participants were given practical exposure to rescue techniques, first aid procedures, and emergency evacuation methods. The demonstrations enabled students and NSS volunteers to understand the practical application of disaster management strategies and enhanced their confidence in handling emergency situations.
