Pro-VC of Assam University, Prof Abhik Gupta retires from service

Jan. 2: Prof. Abhik Gupta, Pro Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar retired from service. He was accorded a befitting farewell by the University fraternity on Saturday.

In this connection, a programme was organized which was presided over by Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of Assam University. Registrar Dr PK Nath, Controller of Examinations Dr Suprabir Dutta Roy, Joint Registrar Jayanta Bhattacharjee along with other officials and faculty members were present during the occasion.

Expressing his views, Prof Abhik Gupta said, “Retired from the posts of professor and pro vice-chancellor of Assam University on 31st December, 2020 after serving the University for over 24 years. My colleagues had organized a farewell programme despite the many odds posed by these challenging times. The hon’ble Vice-Chancellor had presided over the programme. Thanks to all my colleagues for the love and affection they had showered on me and the cooperation that I have always received from them.”

Born and brought up in Shillong, Prof. Abhik Gupta started his career as a Lecturer in the Department of Zoology at St Edmund’s College, Shillong. From there, he joined Assam University as a Reader in Department of Ecology and Environment Science in 1996.

Prof. Gupta’s area of interest includes Ecology and Biodiversity, especially of freshwater ecosystems, environmental pollution and Ecotoxicology Environmental Monitoring and Management Environmental History, Policy and Ethics.
