Special ‘Anna Sewa Din’ launched across Cachar

way2barak, November 10: — A new chapter in Assam’s public welfare drive unfolded across Cachar on Monday as the District Administration successfully launched the Assam Government’s flagship initiative  ‘Anna Sewa Din’ under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

The state-level inauguration, led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati, was telecast live at every Fair Price Shop in Cachar, allowing thousands of beneficiaries to be part of the moment. The district-level rollout in Cachar was marked by meticulous planning and seamless execution, reflecting the administration’s strong commitment to efficient and fair food distribution.

Under this initiative, the regular NFSA free rice entitlement has been supplemented with subsidised Masur Dal, Salt, and Sugar, providing an added layer of nutritional and financial support to over 13 lakh beneficiaries across Cachar. The fully digitised e-PoS (Electronic Point of Sale) system introduced by the Assam Government has further enhanced the process by ensuring accuracy, transparency, and real-time monitoring.

It is worthy to mention that as a part of the simultaneous district-level rollout, ceremonial distributions were held at all 1,756 Fair Price Shops across Cachar, covering 3.88 lakh ration cards and benefitting over 13 lakh NFSA beneficiaries.

The central district event was held at Rongpur under Silchar LAC, where DC Shri Mridul Yadav formally inaugurated the distribution drive in the presence of Assistant Commissioner-cum-In-Charge, Joint Director, FPD&CA, Smt. Junali Devi and several other dignitaries. The ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, Fair Price Shop owners, and cooperative society members, who commended the administration’s inclusive approach.

In an interaction with the beneficiaries, DC Mridul Yadav distributed food items personally and enquired about their experiences under the revamped system. Addressing the gathering, he lauded the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s visionary leadership in transforming the public distribution framework into a more disciplined and citizen-focused mechanism.

“Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam’s public distribution network has evolved into a model of transparency and responsiveness. ‘Anna Sewa Din’ reflects our government’s commitment to food security and dignity for every household,” DC Yadav added.

He further stated that beneficiaries would now be able to collect their monthly quota of essential commodities within the first ten days of each month. “This step ensures timely access and convenience for every entitled family, particularly those in rural and remote areas,” he said, urging Fair Price Shop owners and cooperative societies to uphold fairness and punctuality in the distribution process.

Highlighting the human touch behind the initiative, DC Yadav said “This programme is not just about food distribution it is about ensuring that every citizen feels the presence of good governance that is simple, efficient, and humane.”

Meanwhile, across all seven legislative constituencies of Cachar, Additional District Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and Block Development Officers simultaneously launched the programme and distributed ration items at respective Fair Price Shops.

Local dignitaries, officials of the Silchar Cooperative Society, and hundreds of beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the District Administration’s well-organised and transparent execution of the initiative.

This is stated in a press release issued by the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam.
