With 25 more cases, COVID cases in Cachar goes upto 250 on Friday; no lockdown as yet
No decision of lockdown from 10 August; Saturday, Sunday to remain closed as usual
August 7: Cachar district registered its highest single day spike of 250 positive cases on Friday. As of now, 3 slots of RT-PCR tests were declared. A total of 38 persons were found positive in the RT-PCR Tests. A maximum number of 212 persons were tested positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). The youngest person to get infected with COVID-19 during the day is a 2-day old baby from Borkhola who is presently admitted at SMCH (SARI Ward Pediatrics). State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Friday night also confirmed that 250 positive cases were detected in Cachar on Friday.
Further, as per sources in the district administration, no decision of lockdown has yet been approved by the state government. As such, the weekend lockdown on Saturday & Sunday (8 & 9 August) will continue as usual.
Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert. informed that MLA of Udharbond, Mihir Kanti Shome was tested coronavirus positive on Friday. He was admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Apart from him, former Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) Chairperson, Niharendra Narayan Thakur also tested positive during the day. Mr. Thakur too will be admitted at SMCH. They were detected positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
The District Media Expert informed that the health department has stepped up Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) in various parts of Cachar. Apart from Urban Centre at Trunk Road, Silchar, COVID-19 Screening Centres were also started at Teachers’ Training College, Link Road, Silchar and Mahamaya LP School, Rongpur, Silchar. More than 2000 rapid tests were done on Friday in these centres. Further, mobile RAT vehicles are also available at various market places where persons can go and do the tests.
As regards lockdown, Mr. Choudhury said, “There is a rumour going on about lockdown in Cachar district from Monday. But till now, no such decision of lockdown has been taken. Actually, some merchants association gave proposal to the Deputy Commissioner suggesting for lockdown in Cachar. It is in this context that a proposal was sent to the government. The decision of imposing lockdown rests completely with the state government and no such decision has been made till now. ”
In the 1st slot of RT-PCR Test results, 13 persons were found coronavirus positive. Out of them, 2 persons were detected COVID-19 positive from Rahman Patty, Silchar. Both of them came by flight from Kolkata to Silchar on 5 August. One of them is a 8-year-old child and the other is a 34-year-old female. They are asymptomatic. A 31-yesr-old male (health worker) from Silchar Medical College was found positive.
Further, two pregnant women from Srikona Part-II and Mohanpur Part I were also detected coronavirus positive. Both the women are in near labour and are presently admitted at Department of O & G, SMCH. A 30-year-old female from Ghungoor also tested positive during the day. Some others were detected positive from Dudhpur (Katigorah), Uttar Krishnapur Pt-III, Mohipur Pt-I, Puticherra, Karitigram (Rongpur) and Darmikhal.
In the 2nd slot, 23 persons tested positive out of which, there is a senior citizen from Link Road, 19-year-old girl from Sonai Road, 60-year-old male from Sarat Pally, 18 months baby from National Highway, 45 years female from Meherpur, 72 years old from Ambicapatty, 40 years male from Fatak Bazar (Travel history from Guwahati). There were cases also from Tarapur Shibbari (SARI case), Kumbirgram, Mohanpur Pt-2, Thaligram T.E., Topkhana, Bagpur Pt-III.
In the 3rd slot, cases were detected from Chun Bungalow Lane in Malugram from where a 38 years old male was found COVID positive. Another positive case was detected from Rangirkhari where a 57-year-old male was tested positive.
Apart from this, 212 persons were tested positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Friday in Cachar district.
