Tribal Affairs Secretary meets Mizoram CM

way2barak, April 16: Ranjana Chopra, Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, held a high-level meeting with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday, charting a roadmap for the state’s holistic development.

The meeting, described as forward-looking and constructive, focused on key sectors critical to Mizoram’s socio-economic progress, including education, touri-sm and livelihood genera-tion. Both sides under scored the need to expand educational opportunities for tribal youth, with parti-cular emphasis on access, quality and skill-oriented learning that aligns with emerging economic trends.
Tourism emerged as a major area of discussion, with special attention given to the potential of homestay initiatives as a sustainable – model for community-based tourism. The initia-tive, officials noted, could not only boost visitor inflow but also create direct income – streams for local house-holds, particularly in rural and remote areas.
The deliberations also highlighted livelihood enhancement as a priority, with an emphasis on strengthening existing schemes and introducing innovative approaches to support income generation among tribal populations.
