Tight vigil in Cachar as HSLC compartmental exams begin

way2barak, May 23 : With the commencement of the HSLC Compartmental Examination 2025 across Cachar district, the district administration has swung into action to ensure a smooth and fair examination process. In a decisive move, Norsing Bey, District Development Commissioner and In-Charge District Commissioner & District Magistrate of Cachar, has promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 to prevent any disturbances that could jeopardize the sanctity of the examinations.
The examination, scheduled from May 23 to May 29, is being conducted by the Assam State School Education Board Division-1, Guwahati-21, at five designated centres in the district—PM Shri Nehru Higher Secondary School, Pailapool; PM Shri Zilkadar Ali H.S. School, Arunachal (Cachar); Sonai Nitya Gopal H.S. School; Government Boys’ H.S. School, Silchar; and DNNK Girls’ H.S. School. These centres are expected to witness heavy footfall of students, staff, and guardians, raising concerns about the potential for chaos and unlawful interference.
In light of credible apprehensions about possible breaches of peace, use of unfair means, and unlawful activities in and around examination venues, the District Magistrate has imposed strict restrictions. Unauthorized persons and unnecessary gatherings have been barred within a 100-meter radius of examination centres and the strong room area. Movement of vehicles, barring those involved in essential services or examination duty, has also been prohibited in the vicinity.
Further tightening the security net, the order bans the use of mobile phones, calculators, and communication devices like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the premises, except for use by authorized personnel. Additionally, only examination supervisory staff are permitted to guide candidates to their designated seats, curbing any external influence. Food stalls, shops, and loud music around the centres have also been strictly banned until the exams conclude.
These proactive steps come as a preventive measure against potential disruptions and to uphold the integrity of the examination process. The District Magistrate has made it clear that any violation of this order will invite strict legal consequences under applicable laws.
The order has been issued ex-parte, reflecting the urgent need for enforcement to maintain order and discipline during the critical examination period. The administration has appealed to all stakeholders—students, guardians, and the general public—to cooperate and ensure that the examinations proceed without incident.
This is stated in a press release issued from Regional office of Information & Public Relations Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam.
