Students sow paddy as a junior college in Assam makes farming part of practical class

July 8: At a time when rural youth are more interested in urban life style, a junior college in Assam made farming a part of practical class and taught students how to sow paddy in the field. Higher Secondary class students of Aspire Junior College in Udalguri, Assam participated in sowing of crops as part of their practical class curriculum at Sapkhaiti of Udalguri district on 7 July.

The Principal of the college, Maihursa Boro said that the college has made it a part of the curriculum to make students understand the efforts of the farmers and connect to the rural lives. He said, “Sowing and harvesting is a skill and we are training our students to acquire this skill.”

Students, both boys and girls participated in sowing of paddy wearing their college uniform. The pictures of this activity went viral in social media and people were appreciating the efforts of the students and the idea evolved by the institution.
