Stolen scooty found under mysterious circumstances, thief still at large

January 27: A scooty was stolen from the Municipal parking lot at Shyamaprasad Road (Shillongpatty), Silchar on 3 January this year.  The incident took place at 1 in the afternoon. A CCTV footage of the theft was recovered in which a boy could be seen who has stolen the scooty. The owner of the scooty Pranab Paul has lodged a FIR in this regard. However, mysteriously the scooty was recovered by its owner on Saturday.

Speaking to way2barak, Pranab Paul informed that his scooty was found by some people inside Shyamananda Ashram near Public School road, Silchar. However, when they failed to trace its owner, the police was informed about it. Police came and took the scooty in their custody. On the basis of the FIR lodged by Pranab Paul, he was informed to identify the vehicle. Pranab reached the police station on Saturday and discovered that it was his scooty. Though he was happy to get back his stolen scooty, but he expressed sorrow as it was recovered in a damaged condition.

Pranab Paul has expressed thanks to social media for circulating the news item carried by way2barak in its portal which might have compelled the robber to leave it unnoticed in a secluded spot. way2barak also published an open letter written by Pranab Paul to Chairman of Silchar Municipality ‘Chairman Sir, is not Silchar Municipality responsible for my scooty being stolen?‘ which got more than 500 views.

The police was, however, unable to locate any whereabouts about the thief although he could be clearly seen in the CCTV footage. In a social media post, Pranab raised an important question. He wrote: “Well, though my scooty was found in a damaged condition, yet I am happy to get it back. But that’s not the end of this story. The thief is roaming freely. Can the police or administration or Silchar Municipality ensure that the same thief will not steal any vehicles in the future? What are the law protecting agencies doing?”
