Maharishi Vidya Mandir to keep school open!

March 15: Though the government of Assam had notified to shut all educational institutions (both govt and private) in the state from 16 March to 29 March in the backdrop of coronavirus scare, but certain schools in Silchar like Don Bosco H.S. School decided to continue with the ongoing examinations. However, good sense prevailed at last and keeping in view the health concern of the students, Don Bosco and some other schools decided to postpone the examinations and keep the schools closed till 29 March, 2020.

In modification to the earlier message issued by Fr. Nelson, Principal of Don Bosco H.S. School, Silchar, it was informed that, “In compliance with the office order issued by the Deputy commissioner, Cachar, Silchar, Don Bosco School, Silchar will remain closed with immediate effect upto 29th March 2020. The dates for the reschedule of Final examination (remaining subjects) for the students of classes Nursery to IX and class XI will be notified.” However, the Board exam for the students of classes X and XII will go on as per the notification of the Government of Assam.

The Principal of Saint Capitanio School, Silchar also sent a message to the parents and teachers where she wrote, “All the remaining exams are postponed till further information in compliance with the govt.order.”

However, as per reports, Maharishi Vidya Mandir is learnt to continue with their ongoing examinations. Unwilling to be named, a few parents told way2barak that the Principal of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Silchar has verbally informed that the school will remain open on 16 March and thereafter and the exams will continue as per schedule. A parent said, “How can the Principal of Maharishi defy the orders of the state government? Is she not concerned with the health threat posed by coronavirus? We are really worried for our children.”

It needs mention here that amid corona scare, both the central  and state governments have adopted various preventive measures. Assam government has also declared that all govt and private educational institutions shall remain closed from 16 to 29 March. Only ongoing Board/ Council & University examinations will continue as per schedule. However, ignoring the govt notification, a few schools decided to go on with their examinations from 16 March onwards. Finally, most of the schools decided to abide by the government notification by Sunday late evening, though Maharishi Vidya Mandir was yet to take a call on it.
