Seva saptah : 75,000 saplings planted across 1,000 schools in Cachar

way2barak, September 2o: As a part of the ongoing Seva Hi Samarpan, Seva Saptah programme, the Cachar District Administration on Friday organised a large-scale tree plantation drive, reinforcing its commitment towards environmental sustainability and public service. The central programme was held at Government Girls’ Higher Secondary & Multi Purpose School, Silchar, where the Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Kanad Purkayastha, and District Commissioner, Cachar, Mridul Yadav, IAS, jointly led the plantation drive.

 

On this occasion, both the MP and the District Commissioner planted saplings in the school campus, setting an example of leadership and commitment towards the preservation of nature. Their participation gave the programme an added significance and motivated the students and citizens to actively take part in the district-wide campaign.

 

The event also witnessed the active participation of senior district officials, including Palve Vijay Trimbak, Divisional Forest Officer, Bonnykha Chetia, Assistant Commissioner and Ganesh Harijan,  Inspector of Schools. Students and teachers of Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Silchar, enthusiastically joined the drive, making the programme lively and impactful.

 

Further strengthening the momentum of the campaign, a parallel programme was held at 617 No. Joyram J.B. School, where Uddharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shom planted saplings along with district officials, teachers, and school students.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Shome underlined the importance of tree plantation for ensuring a sustainable tomorrow. He said, “Planting trees is planting life. Every sapling that we plant today will protect our children and future generations from the threats of climate change and environmental degradation.”

While addressing the students at the central event, Govt girls higher secondary school in Silchar, District Commissioner Mridul Yadav highlighted that the plantation drive under Seva Hi Samarpan, Seva Saptah reflects the administration’s mission to combine public service with environmental stewardship.

“This is not just a plantation activity but an effort to inculcate environmental consciousness among young students, who will carry forward this responsibility for generations to come,” he said.

MP Kanad Purkayastha said, “This plantation drive is a living example of how welfare programmes can create a sustainable impact. By involving our students in such missions, we are instilling in them the values of responsibility, compassion, and care for the environment. These saplings are not just trees, but promises for a greener and healthier future.”

It needs to be mentioned that as part of this district-wide campaign, 75,000 saplings have been planted across 1,000 educational institutions in Cachar district, with each school receiving 75 saplings. The initiative stands as one of the largest plantation drives organised in the state under the ongoing Seva Saptah celebrations.

The Cachar District Administration expressed gratitude to all the officials, institutions, and participants whose collective efforts made the event a grand success. The plantation programme, held on the 3rd day of Seva Hi Samarpan, Seva Saptah, not only marked a significant step towards ecological balance but also strengthened the spirit of service and community participation that the campaign embodies.
