Russian book seller attract visitors in last day of Book Fair

১৯ নভেম্বরঃ বইমেলার শেষদিনে নজর কাড়লেন রুশ মহিলা। ছাতা টাঙিয়ে ইসকনের বই নিয়ে বসে পড়লেন মেলায়। যত না বই দেখেছেন মেলার দর্শনার্থীরা, এর চেয়ে বেশি তাকিয়েছেন তাঁর দিকে। যিনি যাচ্ছেন, তাঁকেই হাতজোড় করে স্বাগত জানাচ্ছেন সুমুখী দেবীদাস। ভাঙা বাংলায় বইয়ের কথা বুঝিয়ে বলার চেষ্টা করছেন।

তিনি শিলচরেরই বধূ। স্বামী বনমালীকৃষ্ণ দাস ওরফে বিজয়কুমার যাদব মায়াপুর জগন্নাথ মন্দিরের পূজারী। শিলচর শহরের মালুগ্রামে বাড়ি তাঁদের। বনমালীকৃষ্ণের বাবা কে পি গোয়ালা ছিলেন প্রতিষ্ঠিত আইনজীবী। স্কুল-কলেজের পড়া সেরে চলে যান মায়াপুরে। ওদিকে, ইসকনের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা প্রভুপাদ একবার রাশিয়া গেলে সুমুখীদেবীর মা টিভিতে তাঁর বক্তব্য শুনে অভিভূত হয়ে পড়েন। পরে তাঁর শিষ্যত্ব গ্রহণ করেন। সেই সূত্রে সুমুখীদেবীও ২২ বছর ধরে শ্রীকৃষ্ণ নামের প্রচারক। নিজ দেশে কাজকর্ম করার মধ্যেই মায়াপুরের নির্দেশে সুইডেনে গিয়ে কৃষ্ণকথা প্রচার করেন। এর পরই নিত্য বিগ্রহ সাজানোর দায়িত্ব নিয়ে এসে যান মায়াপুরে। পরে আর ফিরে যাওয়া হয়নি। শিলচরের পূজারী যুবক বনমালীকৃষ্ণকে বিয়ে করে থেকে যান মায়াপুরে। কিছুদিন আগে এসেছেন শ্বশুরবাড়ি। বইমেলা চলছে শুনে সঙ্গে থাকা বইপত্র নিয়ে বসে যান ছাতা টাঙিয়ে।

১৫ বছরের বৈবাহিক জীবনে তাঁদের একটি ছেলে রয়েছে। ভানুকৃষ্ণ দাস। মায়াপুরেই পঞ্চম শ্রেণিতে পড়ে। এরই মধ্যে বাংলা, ইংরেজি, রুশ ভাষায় দক্ষ হয়ে উঠেছে। জানে হিন্দিও। বইমেলায় মা-বাবাকে বই বিক্রিতে সাহায্য করে সেও।

November 19: A Russian lady became the centre of attraction during the last day of Barak Book Fair. She sat down beneath an umbrella with books spread on a table. Visitors crowded near her to catch a glimpse of the Russian lady. With a smiling face, Sumukhi Devidasa was greeting all who came near her in the posture of ‘namaskar’. She was trying to explain the contents of the book in stumbling Bengali.

She informed that she is the daughter-in-law of Silchar. Her husband Banamali Krishna alias Bijay Kumar Yadav, the priest of Mayapur Jagannath temple is a resident of Malugram. His father K.P. Goala was a renowned advocate. After finishing his college education, Banamali went to Mayapur. On the other hand, the mother of Sumukhidevi was highly impressed listening to the speech of Pravhupada, the founder of ISKCON on Television  during one of his visit to Russia. She later on become his disciple. Since then Sumukhidevi too has devoted herself in schanting and propagating the name of Lord Krishna.

On the direction from ISKCON, she also went to Sweden to preach the gospel of Krishna. She came from Russia to dress up the idol of Radha-Krishna at Mayapur. However, she did not return back. Rather she married Banamali Krishna, the priest of Jagannath Temple at Mayapur who originally hails from Silchar. She came to Silchar in the house of her in-laws. When she heard about the Book Fair, she sat down with the books which she had with her.

In their 15 years of married life, they have a boy child. The name of their child is Bhanukrishna Das. He studies in Class V at Mayapur. Bhanukrishna knows to converse in English, Bengali, Russian and Hindi language. He helped his parents in selling books at Barak Book Fair on Sunday.
