RTI orientation workshop held in Cachar
way2barak, Dec.17: An Orientation Workshop on the Right to Information Act was held here today for State Public Information Officers of different government departments of all the three districts of Barak Valley. Organized by the Assam Information Commission in collaboration with the Cachar district administration, State Information Commissioners Kanak Chandra Sarma and Dr Samudra Gupta Kashyap were present as resource persons.
Dr Kashyap, in his presentation, gave an overview of the RTI Act 2005 and explained its significance in promoting transparency and accountability, creating an informed citizenry and also to contain corruption. State Information Commissioner, Sarma on the other hand, stressed on timely disposal of RTI applications and better maintenance of records, and also answered to various queries of the participating officers. Sarma also asked the SPIOs to remain vigilant against attempts to misuse the RTI Act by certain persons.
Meanwhile, altogether 169 officers (102 from Cachar, 39 from Karimganj and 28 from Hailakandi) took part in the workshop, Cachar Additional Deputy Commissioner Jubaraj Barthakur and Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police, Subrata Sen also took part in the deliberations. Hirumoni Mili, Assistant Commissioner, Cachar offered the vote of thanks.
