ABVP cleans all statues at Silchar, to light lamps at their pedestal on Diwali

October 25: Statues of great personalities are found almost in every cities, towns and villages. They stand on high pedestals bequeathing an undying legacy to posterity. The more the enthusiasm for erecting a statue, the less the feeling of responsibility to clean it regularly. Probably, the statues in our country get’s a respectful cleaning only on their birth and/or death anniversaries. Apart from this, it seems to be the duty of rains to clean them up.

However, just on the eve of Kali Puja and Diwali, the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) were found deeply involved in an activity, which was an unusual sight. The statues of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore etc. at Silchar were washed properly by ABVP.

While speaking to way2barak, ABVP members informed that usually Hindus wash and clean their houses on the eve of Diwali. They said, “Hardly anyone bothers to clean the statues of these great man who are the ideals of our society. So we the members of ABVP thought to clean these statues and thereby pay our deep homage to these great men of our motherland. On the Diwali night, we will light ‘diyas’ (lamps) at the pedestal of all the statues.
