Barak Valley registers 136 positive cases on Sunday

August 2: The number of coronavirus positive cases has exhibited a somewhat downward trend in Barak Valley on Sunday along with the rest of Assam. A total of 136 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Saturday, Barak Valley registered comparatively less positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 78 positive cases (It was 61 on Saturday)
  • Karimganj: 29 positive cases (It was 46 on Saturday)
  • Hailakandi: 29 positive cases (It was 04 on Saturday)

With 78 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Sunday, Cachar recorded a total of 1832 cases of coronavirus as of now. A large number of positive cases on Sunday were detected through contact tracing. Apart from this, cases on account of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) were also also found during the day. In the 1st 3 slots of RT-PCR Test, 19, 18 and 30 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive. Apart from this, 11 persons were detected positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

District Media Expert, Suman Choudhury informed that till 1 August, 1754 persons were detected positive in Cachar. 1085 persons got cured and were subsequently discharged. Apart from this, 842 persons were detected without travel history (through contact tracing etc.), out of which 425 persons are from defence. He further acknowledged the fact that from the last 2 days, the health department is facing some inconveniences regarding ambulance management for picking up positive patients from their homes/ quarantine centres. He said, “This is because the number of positive cases has increased now and moreover, some ambulance drivers and staff of health department has also tested positive. So the late in reaching to the positive patients is purely unintentional. Moreover, many persons who turns positive keeps their mobile switched off, which results in great difficulty for us to trace the patient.

On Sunday, 29 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 1006. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 29 positive cases detected on Sunday, 14 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). 34 swab results turned out to be negative. A total of 184 cases have been found positive under RAT so far with majority of them without travel history. Seven persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of persons released to 819.The number of active cases in the district is currently 181.

Karimganj district also recorded 29 COVID-19 positive cases on Sunday. Apart from this, 15 persons were discharged in Karimganj. Assam witnessed another 4 deaths due to COVID-19 on Sunday. Out of the four, one of them is from Karimganj district. The deceased was identified as Mridula Ghosh (54).

Apart from the valley, a total of 1178 persons tested positive in Assam on Sunday, thereby taking the state tally to 42,904. As of now, there are 10,412 active cases in the state. Meanwhile,942 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 32,384 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 4 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 105.

India’s total coronavirus cases rose to 17,50,724 today, an record single-day increase of 54,736 cases, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The recoveries surged to 11,45,629, including 51,255 in past 24 hours. The death toll due to COVID-19 climbed to 37,364 with 853 people succumbing to the disease in a 24-hour span. At present, there are 5,67,730 active cases in the country. The recovery rate stood at 64.53% while the fatality rate at 2.15%. This is the fourth consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 50,000.
