Patwari Nurul Hoque Barbhuiya arrested for bribe in Silchar
way2barak, July 18: A complaint was received at the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, alleging that Nurul Hoque Barbhuiya, Patwari, Sadar Circle, Cachar, Silchar, had demanded Rs. 30,000 as bribe from the complainant in connection with payment of compensation against land acquired for construction of four lane road.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the above-mentioned public servant.
Accordingly, a trap was laid today, on 18/07/2024 by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam at the Settlement office, Silchar. The accused patwari Nurul Hoque Barbhuiya was caught red handed in the office immediately after he accepted Rs. 5,000 as a part of the demanded bribe from the complainant. The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized accordingly, in presence of independent witnesses.
In this connection, a case has been registered in ACB Police Station on 18/07/2024 vide ACB P.S. Case No. 55/2024, under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
On finding sufficient evidences against the above-mentioned patwari, he has been arrested in connection with the case.
Superintendent of Police, Directorate of V&AC informs that necessary legal follow up action is underway.
