Classes from HS to PG level to start from 1st week of September: Assam Cabinet

Aug. 26: In the weekly Assam Cabinet today, several key decisions regarding reopening of educational institutions, assistance to sports-persons, boosting PWD Building assets, speeding up, jaljeevan, Mission work, providing employment, etc. were taken. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

Key Decisions:

Reopening of Educational Institutions: 

  • Classes from HS to PG level to start from first week of September, 2021.
  • Vaccination camps to be held at the offices of Block Elementary Education Officer, District Elementary Education Officer, Inspector of Schools and all university campuses from August 27, 2021 up to September 5, 2021
  • SOP regarding reopening of institutions to be announced on or before August 31
  • Mandatory first dose vaccination for attending classes and both doses for staying in hostels.

Big Boost to PWD:

New Establishments on Cards Building Circles –

  • 8 Building Divisions –
  • 20 Building Sub-Divisions –
  • 28 Electrical Circles –
  • 4 Electrical Divisions –
  • 8 Electrical Sub-Divisions -17
  • 3,150 new posts created in PWD (Bldg & NH)
  • Technical posts – 804
  • All temporary and proposed 14 Circles, 44 Divisions and 86 Sub-Divisions to be made permanent.

Steps to remove bottlenecks in Jal Jeevan Mission implementation:

  • PHE Divisions to be created in Majuli with HQ at Kamalabari, Bajali with HQ at Pathsala and South Salmara Mancachar with HQ at Hatsingimari
  • Nazira PHE Division to be shifted to Sonar’ and renamed as Charaideo Division
  • Creation of 93 new posts for the new Divisions.

Intra-district Transfer:

  • Deputy Commissioners authorised to transfer Grade III & IV staff including junior engineer within the district in consultation with Head of the Department concerned.

Climate Change:

  • Science and Technology Department renamed as Science, Technology and Climate Change.

BTAD Flood:

  • Ministers Jogen Mahan and UG Brahma deputed to monitor flood situation in BTAD.

Standing by Sports-persons: 

  • Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah’s birthday on September 3 to be observed as Sports Day
  • Regular Sports Pension for sportspersons/ organisers/ technical officials raised from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000
  • Life time pension of Rs 10,000 per month to medal winners of national/international championships
  • One time assistance of Rs 50,000 medal winners who are in employment.
