Inner Wheel Club renovates a well at their adopted village at Athalbasti in Ghoongur

November 14: The wheel of social service activities undertaken by Inner Wheel Club of Silchar has accumulated a great speed. The club members under the able leadership of its President Jhumki Saha and Secretary Ankita Ghosh could be seen in action almost every now and then in nook and corner of Cachar district.

On Thursday, the members of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar initiated another very vital philanthropic task. A few days ago, the club had adopted a village, named, Athalbasti located at Ghoongur in Silchar. Around 30 families comprising of around 250 persons reside in that small village.

The people of that village suffered endlessly due to shortage of proper drinking water. For these 30 families, the only source of drinking water was from a community well. But that particular well was also damaged and required renovation. However, the poor people of that village were unable to bear the expenses of renovation and so they were facing acute crisis of drinking water.

It was in this backdrop that Inner Wheel Club resolved to renovate that well. On the request of Inner Wheel, one Alok Mohan Banik sponsored the Renovation work of the well. The members of the club took extra pains to get that well renovated. On Thursday, the work of renovation got over and the members of the club went there along with the female residents of the locality.

The villagers were extremely happy to find their well repaired. They in presence of the members of Inner Wheel Club also drew water from the well. One lady of the locality with tears in her eyes expressed gratitude to the club members for renovating their only source of drinking water.

Later on speaking to way2barak, Jhumki Saha said, “It was indeed tiresome to come for days together and supervise the work standing in the field under the sun. But today, when we saw the smiles in the face of the women of the locality, our all tiredness vanished. All of us were speechless to see the unbounded joy with which the people of the village expressed their gratitude.”

Apart from the Club President Jhumki Saha and Secretary- Ankita Ghosh, the other members of Inner Wheel Club who visited the spot are Sudha Mundra (PDC), Mohul Mitra, Moutushi Roy, Mousumi Saha, Indrani Bhattacharjee, Anju Patoa and Madhuparna Basak.
